UPDATES: NJSBDC Network, Coronavirus & Your Business

Due to health and safety concerns regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the NJSBDC at Rutgers-Newark will continue to provide counseling and training services virtually to all clients.

All workshops and training events have been moved to our virtual platform on ZOOM. Registration can be completed at http://rnsbdc.eventbrite.com. All access information will be sent to join the events online. Participants should ensure that they have access to a computer or mobile device with Internet.

Smart Business Plan Writing Workshop (Spring Cycle - 4 Weeks)

The Rutgers Newark SBDC offers a 4 week - 20 hour Business Plan Writing Workshop. This workshop cycle is offered on Saturdays and will be conducted in a computer lab facility. At the completion of the workshop, clients who need additional assistance with fine-tuning their business plans will have an opportunity to have a Business & Financial Plan Review. A draft business plan is required in order to be scheduled for an appointment.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Resumed

The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.

You can apply through any existing SBA 7(a) lender or through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating. 

-Apply by Jun 30, 2020, first come first serve

-Max loan 2.5 x your average monthly payroll expense

-Portion may be eligible for loan forgiveness

-Interest rate =1%

-2-year maximum term

-No payment required in the first 6 months

-No collateral/personal guarantee required

Micro Business Loan Program                                 

NJ Economic Development Authority's Micro Business Loan Program makes financing of up to $50,000 available to for-profit businesses legally registered to do business in New Jersey, with a business location in New Jersey (home-based businesses are not eligible), who have annual revenues in the most current fiscal year of no more than $1,500,000, and 10 full-time employees or less at time of application. Startup businesses are eligible for financing but must demonstrate to the Authority that they have completed an entrepreneurship training program or Small Business Development Center counseling sessions.
